The Creshers

A hereditary caravan-cult built on a misheard god.

The Creshers are a wandering people bound less by blood than by belief — a cult passed down through generations, carrying an old and terrible conviction along the roads of the south. They gather “those who will not be missed” and bring them to the forest’s altar, certain they are doing what their god requires.

Their certainty rests on a misunderstanding so old that no one living remembers it as anything but truth. Somewhere far back, something was misheard, and a whole way of life grew up around the error — rituals, duties, and a quiet machinery of harm performed in the name of devotion.

Not all of them are at peace with it. Travelling the caravan are people like Orin and Leona, who still feel the wrongness the cult has trained itself to ignore. It is among the Creshers that Estaria first sees how faith, untended, can curdle into cruelty — and how a single conscience can still cut against the grain.
